What have I learned about the Renaissance?
Posted on May 28th, 2007 at 10:25 pm by cicci and
What have I learned about the Renaissance in the last two classes?
I have learned a lot of things. I have seen a list of guilt they had. Seen a typical home at that time, witch didn’t look anything like our nice houses. Now I know they didn’t have thermometers that you put in your mouth at the Renaissance time. I also learned that one florin is worth 5 shillings. The renaissance was after the middle ages. Florence, witch most of the questions were talking about, is located in Italy. The people in the renaissance ate pretty much the same as the people in the middle ages. The rich had big parties with lots of food such as, meat, bird, cakes, puddings, soups, spices, fruits and vegetables. The spices could only rich afford. The rich usually used big bread slices for plates so when they spilled the bread sucked it up. The bread slices was then given to the poor.

Response On Joseph’s Current Event
1. What new information has emerged?
They have found 43 deaths. That’s 8 more then before. They have also found out that 52 people are missing from the floods.
2. What did you find interesting about this topic?
Well there have happened a lot of natural disasters these few years and scientists predict there will be more. Like the big tragic tsunami everyone knows about that happened in Thailand before. Â Also there are a lot of hurricanes in America that people are talking about a lot. I want people to be educated on how this affect the people in the world and why its happening.
3. What did you like about the initial blog posting?
Joseph is a very confident person and is not afraid to stand in front of people and talk. He’s very clear and loud so it’s easy to understand and get what he’s trying to get out. He remembered his whole presentation on the current event with out any cards witch I think is very impressing. When people asked questions about the event he answered the questions like he knew they were going to ask him that. Very nice Joseph! Keep up the good work.
Edmund Spenser
Posted on May 8th, 2007 at 9:33 pm by cicci and
Edmund spenser was a very famous poet. He was born in Laramine, Wyoming 1552. Edmund was educated in London at the Merchant Taylor’s School. At Pembroke Collage he was admitted to membership. In 1570 he moved to Ireland. When the Nine Years War started he was driven from his home by Irish rebels. During the war his castle was burned down and it is thought that his wife and one of his 3 children died in the fire. When he returned to London after the fire he died of poverty. His death was 13 January 1599. His coffine was arranged to be carried by famous poets and they would throw pens and pieces of poetry in Edmund’s grave.
His most famous work is The Faeire Queene. It is very big in English poetry. Edmund planned 12 books of the poem but he only finished 6 and some stanzes for the 7th after this terrible death. His work is one the longest epic poem in English language. Edmunds Epitnalamion was written to his wife Elizabeth Boyle for their weeding, 1594.

Renaissance Interview Reflection
Posted on May 8th, 2007 at 9:19 pm by cicci and
#1. Think about class today and reflect on the presentations you listened to. Explain with details and specific information what you learned and what you found interesting about the presentations you heard in class.
I learned a lot of stuff about a lot of different people who lived during the renaissance period. Giovanni Boccaccio was a famous writer and wrote the book “Decameron” about 7 women and 3 men. Niccolo Machiavelli was a famous writer. He wrote books, plays, and poems. King Charles the First was the guy who started the Civil War in Britain. John Calvin lived in Paris for 24 years. He was the man who created the 5 editions of religion. John Hawkins was a prized man in England. He also fought in the war against Spain.
#2. What would you change to improve your interview/presentation if you were to do the assignment again?
I think i would make it longer and sound more interesting more like a talk show or something. It would sound and be much cooler. I might also if i had more time add sound effects. I would rehearse the interview a few times so i know how to pronouns stuff. If we could we could make a video and film it like a TV show like Oprah or something. That would be really cool but take a long

What is the issue?
The percentage of decayed babe teeth has risen by 4% in ages 2-5 since 1999. Scientists believe it’s from the kids eating habits. Parents give their kids more snacks and bottled water or other kinds of drinks instead of tap water.
Who is involved?
Parents, kids, snack companies, water companies, and the scientists/dentists
Who is affected and how?
- The parents because they are the once responsible for the kids.
- The kids because they are the once who get decayed teeth.
- Snack companies because they make the snack the kids eat and causes the kids to get decayed teeth.
- The water companies because they cause the kids to get decayed teeth.
- The scientists/dentists because they r seeing the rising and they have to find a way to decrease the percentage of babe teeth decaying in kids
What I would do if I was directly involved?
In schools there are a lot of sugar snacks the kids can buy, so I would replace them by fruits and healthy snacks. I would also replace the bottled water to tap water, because the bottled water doesn’t have the right amount of fluoride. With the right amount of Fluoride, like in tap water, it can help prevent tooth decay.
I would increase the making of sugar added snacks and instead make non-sugar once. The kids would have to go to the dentists more often to check if the teeth have started to decay. I would give money to the scientists so they can research more about teeth decaying and maybe they’ll come up with a solution how to stop it.
Renaissance person
Posted on April 15th, 2007 at 10:59 pm by cicci and
As u know a Renaissance person is someone who has a wide range of knowledge or skills. There are a lot of people out there in the world who have high knowledge or skill in one specific thing. The person I’m going to pick is a person you see everyday, a priest.
They were very educated. Before the printing press was made, priest were one of people who would read and write. They were copying pages from the bible and not many people could do that. They knew a lot of things about the world that normal people didn’t. They knew a lot of things about God and the bible. Religion was very important to the people so many people came and talked to the priests about the bad things they had done. The priests were very educated and gave good solutions to the people’s problems.
I think preasts are have high knowlage and skills in a lot of good things and were very important people during the renaissance. This is myopinion and people might think they weren’t but if you really think about it they were.
Are there people today willing to give up their lives for a cause they believe in?
Posted on February 25th, 2007 at 6:35 pm by cicci and
To give up someones life for something doesn’t always mean something religious or big. It can be things we see every day, that out parents gave up their single and comforting life to raise children. The parents might think we can make a difference in the world and get a good job and those kind of things. There are also big things which you can get killed of, like a military fighting in a war. They believe they can win the war and be a hero for their country. Their are also religious people who give up their lives for their religion. Like priests give up their life for God by not having “IT” and not getting married. Moslem women also give up their life by not showing their hair or their whole body except their eyes. They do this because of their religion they believe in.

1. What is the Issue?
Tasmanian Devils are dying because of a disease. The disease is a tumoure on their heads which makes them unable to eat, and die of hunger. Scientists think they get it from biting each other. The Tasmanian devil is one of the most unusual animals in the world, so their aren’t many of them. If we don’t do something now scientists believe The Tasmanian Devil will disappear in 10 years if we don’t do anything. People have already taken them from
Tasmania and put them in zoos where they will get better.
2. Who is involved?
The Tasmanian Devil and humans
3. Who is affected and how? Humans are affected, because they need to save the Tasmanian Devils and if we don’t save them the ecosystem will get messed up. The Tasmanian Devils are affected because they get the disease and might die out.
4. What would you do if you were directly involved?
I ‘m going to look closer at the disease and try to find something which makes them feel good again. I would raise money to clubs, donations, vaccines, zoos, and homes for them. The clubs would support the Tasmanian Devils and the donation would go to all the Tasmanian Devils. The vaccine would cost a lot to find, make, and buy but with the money we would raise we would save a lot of lives. The zoos would provide protection and homes for the Tasmanian Devils and some people might want to give homes to them.
How Important Was Religion To The People Of The Middle Ages?
Posted on February 21st, 2007 at 4:25 pm by cicci and
I think religion was very important to the people of the Middle Ages. Here are some points that made me realized why religion was important. The church was often in the center point of a village. In a village 1/10 of everyone’s savings was given to the church. In England there was about 6 Cathedrals and 80 Monasteries. In the Middle Ages there where monks who were people who gave their life to pray to God and help the sick and poor people in their village. The monks prayed to God 4 times a day. Fiars were like monks, but went around other villages and towns to tell people about God. Â
The people in a village turned to God with their problems and believed God could help them. Many people in the Middle Ages went on Pilgrimages to a famous church or to the Holy Land to visit towns where Jesus had worked and visited in. Â
Like you see there are a lot of things the Middle Age people did for the religion they believed in. After reading the package where I got this information from, I realized how many things they did to make God happy and so on.
What I have learned about the Middle Ages!
Posted on February 10th, 2007 at 4:05 pm by cicci and
What I have learned about the Middle Ages. Â
I have learned a lot about the Middle Ages. From the video we saw, I learned that the Black Death was during that time, 1300 A.D. During the Black Death a lot of people from
Europe died. The Black Death was when rats from Asia came on board the ships from
Europe and the rats had dieses which killed a lot of people. The only country in Europe which hadn’t got the dieses was
England. When a person died they beery them at first, so more people got sick, and when they realized more people got the disease they berried them in a big whole. A lot of the land was empty, because everyone whole lived there had died. Children, women, and men died and berried their family and new that soon they would lie in the same whole as their family. Many people blamed the dieses on the Jewels, and some thought it was God who caused the dieses and that God thought the people had it to easy and deserved the disease. So the people of
Europe hit them self so that God would stop the disease.
Â

Â
On the package we read in class about the Middle Ages, I learned a lot about different things. I learned about the Vikings and that they came from Scandinavia, Sweden, Norway, and
Denmark. The Vikings were feared all over
Europe and that almost no army could defeat them. They had long and thin boats which they used to get to different countries.

We read about the different cultures, Christianity and Muslim. The Christians believed in Jesus and the Muslim believed in Mohammed.
Â
In the Middle Ages, the people invented a lot of things. Most of the things were for the horses. They invented the stirrup and the things the horse has around its neck when you’re farming. Can you think how happy the farmers got?
Â

Â
We learned a lot of things about the Middle Ages from the video and the package we read. Some of the things I already knew, but most of it was new to me, and much of it was interesting and fun to read and watch about. The most intresting thing about the Middle Ages was about the Vikings, because I’m from Sweden.
